The short version
- There are no accounts and no sign-up forms.
- The tools run inside your browser. Images, documents and text you open or type into a tool are never uploaded to us or anyone else.
- Some tools remember your settings or saved work in your browser’s own storage. That data stays on your device.
- Like every website, our hosting provider and a few third-party services receive your IP address and basic request data when your browser loads something from them.
- Some pages may show ads from Google, which uses cookies. Where the law requires it, you are asked for consent first.
- We don’t sell your personal information.
Who we are
This site, artsinterstices.com, is run by ArtsInterstices (“we”, “us”). For data protection purposes we are responsible for the small amount of personal data described in this policy. You can reach us about anything here at [email protected].
What we don’t collect
We don’t ask for names, passwords, addresses or payment details, because nothing on the site needs them. There are no comment boxes or contact forms; the only way to send us personal information is to email us.
Files you open in a tool — photos, scans, drawings, fonts, documents — are read and processed by code running in your browser on your own device. They are not sent to our servers or to any other server. The same goes for the numbers and text you type into calculators and generators.
Some tools offer a Share link. It works by writing the tool’s settings into the web address after the # sign. Browsers don’t send that part of an address to the server when a page loads, but anyone you send the link to can read it, so don’t put anything private into a shared link.
Data stored in your browser
To remember your preferences, presets, recent results, quiz scores or saved lists, some tools use your browser’s localStorage. The Art Inventory Tracker also keeps the artwork thumbnails you add in IndexedDB, a similar storage area for larger data. Both live on your device only. We can’t see them, and they aren’t sent to us.
You can delete this data at any time through your browser’s settings, usually under “Cookies and site data” or “Clear browsing data” for this site. Clearing it removes saved work permanently, so use a tool’s export or download option first if you want to keep something. In a private or incognito window, this storage is discarded when you close the window.
Services your browser contacts
Loading a web page means your browser asks a server for files, and every server that answers sees your IP address, the time, the address requested and standard browser information (such as the browser type and the page you came from). These are the services involved:
- Cloudflare — on every page. Our hosting and content delivery provider. It processes technical logs to deliver and secure the site, and may set a strictly necessary security cookie to filter out malicious traffic.
- Google Fonts — in typography tools, such as the Font Pairing Generator, when they load the typefaces you preview.
- jsDelivr and cdnjs — only when you use a feature that needs an open-source code library, such as PDF export, ZIP downloads or background removal. cdnjs is provided by Cloudflare.
- Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons — in the Famous Painting Quiz, which loads painting images and their descriptions from them.
- Google AdSense and its partners — on pages that show ads. See Advertising below.
- An analytics service, if enabled — on pages you view. See Analytics below.
Each provider handles this data under its own privacy policy: Google, Cloudflare, jsDelivr and the Wikimedia Foundation.
Advertising
Pages on this site may show ads served by Google AdSense. This is how we pay for hosting and keep the tools free.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising from many other third-party vendors at www.aboutads.info, or, in Europe, at www.youronlinechoices.eu.
- Google explains how it uses information from sites that show its ads in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Even non-personalized ads use cookies or similar technologies for things like limiting how often you see the same ad, aggregated reporting and fighting fraud and abuse.
Visitors in the UK, the EEA and Switzerland. When ads are shown, we use a consent management platform certified by Google to ask for your consent before cookies or similar technologies are used for advertising, as the law requires. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time through the privacy settings link the consent tool provides.
Visitors in US states with privacy laws. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) and similar state laws, the use of advertising cookies may count as “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, or as “targeted advertising”. You can opt out using the Ads Settings and industry opt-out pages above and, where the law requires it, through a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” option provided with the ads.
Analytics
We may use a privacy-friendly analytics service to count page views and how often tool features such as copy, download and share are used. This kind of analytics doesn’t use cookies, doesn’t follow you across other websites and doesn’t build a profile of you; we only see totals, such as how many people used a tool this week. If we ever switch to analytics that use cookies or persistent identifiers, we will update this policy first and ask for consent where required.
Cookies at a glance
- Our own cookies: none. Our code uses browser storage only for the tool features described above.
- Security: Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary cookie to protect the site from automated abuse.
- Consent: where a consent tool is shown, it stores your choice so it doesn’t ask on every page.
- Advertising: Google and its partners may set cookies on pages that show ads, subject to your consent where required.
If you email us
When you write to us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. We use them only to reply, to follow up, and to fix the problem or correction you reported. We don’t add you to a mailing list and we don’t share your message with anyone except the email provider that stores it for us. We keep correspondence only as long as it’s useful for answering you and dealing with related follow-ups, then delete it.
Legal bases
If you are in the UK, the EEA or Switzerland, these are the grounds we rely on:
- Legitimate interests — delivering and securing the site (technical logs), counting visits in aggregate, and answering your emails.
- Consent — cookies and similar technologies used for advertising, where consent is required.
- Strictly necessary — browser storage that a tool uses to provide a feature you asked for, such as remembering your saved presets.
How long data is kept
Browser storage stays on your device until you clear it. Technical logs are kept by Cloudflare for its own limited retention periods; we don’t keep separate server logs. Analytics data is aggregated. Advertising data is kept according to Google’s and its partners’ policies. Emails are kept as described above.
International transfers
Our providers, including Google and Cloudflare, may process data in the United States and other countries. Where data from the UK, the EEA or Switzerland is transferred, they rely on recognized safeguards such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (and its UK and Swiss extensions) or standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
Because there are no accounts or profiles, we usually hold nothing linked to you apart from any emails you’ve sent. You still have rights over that data, and over data collected through our site by the providers above.
UK, EEA and Switzerland (GDPR and UK GDPR). You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to how it’s used, and to receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting what happened before. You can also complain to a data protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office; in the EU, the authority in your country.
California and other US states (CCPA/CPRA and similar laws). You have the right to know what personal information is collected about you and how it’s used, to have it deleted or corrected, to opt out of its sale or sharing for targeted advertising, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. In the past 12 months, the only categories collected through the site were identifiers such as IP addresses and cookie IDs, internet activity such as pages viewed and interactions with ads, and approximate location inferred from IP addresses — collected by our hosting, analytics and advertising providers for the purposes described above. We don’t sell personal information for money, and we don’t collect sensitive personal information. You may use an authorized agent to make a request.
Canada and Australia. You can ask to access and correct personal information we hold about you, and complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if you’re unhappy with our response.
To make a request, email [email protected]. We may ask for information to confirm the request comes from you, and we reply within the time the law allows — one month under the GDPR, 45 days under California law. For data held by Google and other ad vendors, their own tools linked above are usually the fastest route.
Children
This is a general-audience site for artists and is not directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When we add a provider or change how the site handles data, we update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll say so at the top of the page for a while.
